The meeting of the year is finally here. Welcome to the Annual JSU meeting, which takes place today. Here, important decisions are made by the different associations as well as important student related topics are discussed. The fun part is that you can also attend as a student, just don’t forget your student ID. But what is discussed at the meeting, and what is it about?
The following topics are discussed at the meeting: What is to be done the following year, how will they fulfill what they decide to do, and finally who shall execute the plans which are decided upon? That means that the budget is also discussed. Common questions during this meeting would for example be, the cost of the membership fee, how much money should be spent on kick off as well as other student-related questions. Last year’s meeting for example the topic of bus tickets was discussed as well as the Mecenat app only being in Swedish. The questions, suggestions, and letter of opinion can be brought forth by students and the student associations.
Some things will be voted for during the meeting. The people voting are 30 student delegates from the student associations like LOK, JSA, Health Section and HI TECH. These people are elected at the bi-annual spring meeting which was held earlier this semester and each school is given an amount of delegates. For example, JSA got 6 delegates this year. One of the common things to vote for would be who gets to stay as a member of the JSU board. During the 22/23 meeting last year for example the president was appointed to replace the previous one.
This meeting is perhaps one of the most important ones because this is the behind-the-scenes of where the student life is either elevated or not. It all depends on making your voice heard and advocating for what you want. Whether that be through an association or by submitting a question to the board to be discussed is up to you. I do as a fellow student encourage you to participate. Take part in improving your student life and see the magic happen!
