Something new and exciting is coming to Jönköping University this fall. On November 22nd, JU will host its very first TEDx conference. TEDxJönköping University is a student-led initiative that has grown from a casual idea into one of the largest student associations on campus in just a few months.
The story of TEDxJönköping University begins with Gabriel and Kristian, two JU students who, during a late-night study break last spring, put on a TED Talk to unwind. And as they watched, they began to wonder, “Why doesn’t JU have its own TEDx?” Within a measly 15 minutes, the idea had gone from a playful “what if” to a serious plan. They reached out to the dean, shaped the project, and soon after, they applied for an official TEDx license. What started as a conversation between friends quickly grew into something much bigger.
For those who don’t know, TEDx is the independently organized branch of the global TED organization, famous for its inspiring “ideas worth spreading.” With a license from TED, students at JU now have the opportunity to bring that same platform to Jönköping. The result will be a one-day event featuring 10 diverse speakers, all centered around this year’s theme: “Redefining Limits.”
The theme reflects something every student can relate to. Whether it’s exams, career uncertainty, personal challenges, or stepping into new opportunities. University life constantly asks us to push beyond what we think is possible. As Kristian explains, “Everyone carries some kind of luggage or obstacle in life. Redefining limits is about showing that you can still move forward, and even thrive.”
Since that first spark of an idea, TEDxJönköping University has expanded into a team of more than 30 dedicated students working across marketing, sponsorship, speaker curation, and event management. Over 100 applicants were interviewed to join the team, showing just how much excitement this project has already generated on campus.
The conference is designed not just to inspire, but also to connect. With a decided 10 speakers present on the day, ranging from business and psychology to personal development and the arts, TEDxJönköping University will be a place to meet new people, share perspectives, and gain insights that go beyond the classroom. As the organizers put it, it’s not only about listening to great talks, it’s also about building a community and sparking conversations that can shape the future.
And the best part? Tickets are available now. Students, staff, and community members are all invited to join this historic first edition of TEDxJönköping University. Seats are limited, so don’t wait.
