Autumn Vibes ~ Pumpkin Spice or Spooky Season ?
Time sure does fly when you’re having fun – or when you study at JU. We are already in the middle of October, although it feels like Kick-Off only ended yesterday. Moving from planning your next beach hangout to shopping for your Halloween costume is definitely not easy, especially when dealing with the ever-changing weather in Sweden. But who says Autumn can’t be fun?
Are you the kind of person to cozy up with a good book, light some candles and enjoy a cup of chamomile tea next to some freshly baked banana bread? Or are you more into chasing goosebumps and carving pumpkins? Either way, we have tips and recommendations for everyone, so you can make the most of what’s left of October!
So, how should you achieve the perfect autumn day as a serial chiller?
1. Watch a good movie or show
There is no better feeling than finishing a movie that leaves you with a nostalgic feeling, a warm heart… or chills up your spine. Since it is the season, this is probably the best time to rewatch ‘Harry Potter’ or ‘The Twilight Saga’, which are guaranteed to take you back and also set the mood for the upcoming school months. Or perhaps try some other classics like ‘Little Women’, ‘The Princess Bride’ or ‘When Harry Met Sally’. And if you want a perfect balance between cozy and rom-com, there is always ‘Gilmore Girls’. However, you can spice it up with some darker vibes and a few jumpscares. For the faint-hearted, ‘Coraline’ and ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ are just perfect for a stormy evening, while those who are braver can go for ‘Scream’ or ‘The Shining’.
2. Read a book
Looking to escape reality? Autumn is just the right season to deep dive into some dark academia books! ‘The Secret History’ by Donna Tartt and ‘If We Were Villains’ by M.L.Rio will for sure make you stare at a wall for an hour after finishing them. While opinions are mixed and they will either be a hit or miss, no way in between, you might just end up finding your next favorite genre. But we should ultimately not forget the gothic classics, ‘Wuthering Heights’ by Emily Brontë and ‘Dracula’ by Bram Stoker. However, if you’re still aiming to create a cozy atmosphere, try ‘Jane Eyre’ by Charlotte Brontë or ‘Anne of Green Gables’ by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Or maybe switch it up to contemporary rom-com and give ‘The Pumpkin Spice Café’ by Laurie Gilmore a shot.
3. Have the right snacks
We can all feel the switch in temperatures, so it might be time to look for an alternative for ice cream. And even though you may need to prioritize school work, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some snacks to keep you motivated and happy. So grab your friends and get some baking done! Cinnamon rolls, apple pies, chocolate chip cookies, now is the time to let your imagination run wild and get lost in seasonal flavors. And if you don’t consider yourself the best in the kitchen, maybe have some caramel popcorn! Or get out of the house and try Espresso House’ pumpkin spice flavored line, while also studying or just catching up with your favorite people!
4. Get ready for Halloween
Even though most people think of October as a rather cozy period, we can’t forget about Halloween! That’s right, the spooky season is also upon us. So time to get ready! Look for the upcoming Halloween themed parties around Jönköping, like AKA or Firebowl and get creative! It is after all the night when you can be whoever you want. Open Pinterest and get inspired! So, start shopping or get crafty and prepare to be the showstopper of the evening!
And don’t forget to take your vitamin D!
