We all know exam season is exhausting and we all need that extra boost sometimes. Even if you don’t have an exam, caffeine is an excellent source for some extra energy early in the morning or to stay awake during a meeting. Coffee is a popular drink all over the world and different cultures all have their way to make it. One fun fact is that Sweden used to be the country that consumed the most cups of coffee per person, only now Finland holds the trophy.
Coffee is one of the most popular beverages around the world where around 2.25 billion cups are consumed every day. Some of the most popular coffee cultures around the world are Italy with the famous Espresso, Ethiopia which is considered the birthplace of coffee with its rich roast and unique serving, and the Middle East where coffee is brewed from light roast beans that are ground into fine powder, it can also be flavored with cardamom. One of the best coffee cultures is however Sweden, the tradition is known as fika and not only is it about drinking coffee and eating a pastry it is like many other cultures a way of socializing.
A coffee I would recommend every day of the week would be your typical Iced latte with a double espresso shot, not only is it refreshing during a hot summer day but you also get a strong coffee taste. If you want to make it at home, prepare a strong coffee shot that you pour into a glass full of ice and then stir to cool down the coffee, after that you pour in your own choice of milk and then blend. There you have a homemade iced latte.
Now at campus taking a break is essential so we don’t get buried in our work, and taking a Fika break is an excellent idea. On campus we have some places which serve coffee for different price ranges. If you are looking for a basic filtered coffee you can find them in most school buildings like Arken at HLK, if you are looking for a cold coffee Dallucci is the place for you where an iced latte is the perfect drink. It can also be nice to get away from school and there are some nice cafes close by that are only a 5 minute walk.
A fun fact about coffee which you might not have known is that coffee is technically a fruit. This is because the coffee beans are actually seeds found inside a fruit known as coffee cherries that are either bright red or purple, these cherries grow on trees and typically contain two seeds. My advice would be to take that fika break soon and enjoy some coffee!
