From March to May: Perfect Spring Recommendations
Well, yes! It is finally time for that kind of article! If you ask me, it feels like it’s been quite some time since ‘Snowy Day Checklist’ and it’s most definitely Spring’s turn to shine. If you are a JU student, then you probably already have a few activities to keep you busy during this period and a full social calendar. But, personally, I believe there’s no such thing as too much and if you’re like me and like to keep yourself occupied, then how about we take a look at a few recommendations for a cozy and reinvigorating Spring Day?
Unlike the previous seasons, Autumn and Winter, for which there are clear pieces of entertainment specifically designed to put you in the perfect mood for Halloween or Christmas for example, Spring is a bit more complicated. So, instead of going for straightforward books or movies that include a “this happened in March”, I decided to look for the certain vibes that fit the themes: rebirth, cozy nature and florals, warmth; Because I think we can all agree that each month, from March to May, gives off a different ambiance. And without further ado, let’s dive right into it!
1,
As always, good books are a great way to start a new season and what better time than Spring itself to read these magnifically whimsical pieces that have for sure been in your TBR for a while. Based on genres, if you fancy yourself a classic, try “Emma” or “Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen and “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll. Or maybe you would prefer some fantasy and cozy romance, so I’d recommend you check out “Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries” by Heather Fawcett, “A River Enchanted” by Rebecca Ross and, one of my personal favourites, “Howl’s Moving Castle” by Diana Wynne Jones (bonus the cutest Studio Ghibli adaptation!)
2,
Speaking of movie adaptations, “Emma” happens not to be only a great read, but also the perfect depiction of love in the English countryside, which is simply the essence of spring in my opinion. Keeping the ‘Adaptations about love during Regency-era England’ vibes, you should definitely give “Bridgerton” a shot and enjoy your favourite romance tropes, all-in-one! But perhaps you’re looking for a more modern romance! Well, it has to be “10 Things I Hate About You” and let me tell you, I have not met a single person who did not enjoy it at least a little bit. However, cute cozy movies don’t need to always be romantic to be good, so how about something more magical like “Mary Poppins” or “The Sound of Music”? Classics, right? Or “Bambi” and “Peter Rabbit”? Nothing’s better than an adorable animation of animals and nature during the Spring Season. Maybe just a charming comedy like “Ferris Bueller’s Day off”.
3,
Moving on, another holiday slowly approaching is International Women’s Day on March 8th. It is the perfect day to thank and appreciate every important woman in your life. Heartwarming cards, fragrant flowers, chocolate boxes or even lovely dinners and getaways. It’s all about them. So make sure they feel even more special than usual. A sweet way to honor women is by diving into some feminist movies together with your loved ones, such as “Little Women”, “Barbie” ,”Legally Blonde” and “The Help”.
4,
However, not to forget about the usual seasonal treats, Spring is just the perfect time to cleanse your food palette and give healthier snacks a shot. Lemons, for example, do not come only with plenty of vitamin C, but also with a fresh taste and scent that can lead to delicious tarts and lemonades. Also, fruits such as strawberries and kiwis are in their prime starting mid-April, same as avocados. So, switch the gingerbread and hot chocolate from December to some nourishing smoothies, fruit salads, muffins, avocado toast and yogurt bowls.
Lastly, don’t forget to keep up with the Vitamin D! Despite daytime growing and the sun being out more often, in Sweden, actual Spring starts around the end of April!
So, now we got to the end of my recommendations list, how are you planning on spending these upcoming months?
