Hi there!
My name is Nelson Gomez. I just turned 21, and I’m part of the EDIT writers team for the spring term. I’m joining the crew because writing has been a recently discovered passion of mine, and I want to start practicing it more, and I find the opportunity of writing for EDIT the perfect one for doing that.
I come from a city called Chihuahua in the northern desert region of Mexico. I love it with all my heart and have been missing it since I arrived in Jönköping. I chose to study in Sweden because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, to test living on my own, to experience another completely different culture, and to meet new people. So far, I have liked it a lot (I just wish it had more daytime and spicy food), especially for its calmness and culture.
I’m taking JIBS courses here (so green overall), but back in Mexico I was studying business administration. Since early high school, I knew I wanted to study finances because it’s a topic that is so interesting to me and affects us all. I especially love the stock market and anything related to it and economics. Currently, I’m focusing a lot on learning about cryptos and their realms. I believe its currencies have the power to change world trading and our dependence on banks. In the future, I would like to work on anything around these spheres.
My main passion is music, I love every single aspect of it. I listen to a variety of genres and I’m always open to recommendations and discovering new artists. I also play the drums since I was 10 years old, and I’m part of Showtime this semester.
Other passions of mine are: sports (I love American football and basketball), video games (my favorites being Rocket League, Battlefield 4, Madden and Skyrim), drawing (really any kind of art, from architecture to cinema), and hanging around with my friends and family.
I have this philosophy or theory that people are like books, from the outside maybe the cover doesn’t attract you or doesn’t interest you, but it has stories that we can all relate to. Every person, from the shyest to the most extrovert, has a story about love, heartbreaks, achievements, suffering, personal growth, battles, etcetera. Everybody has a good story to tell worth listening to. I also started to like stoicism from the beginning of the pandemic; it has helped develop discipline and courage to overcome adversity.
My writings are going to be mainly about topics in relation with my passions, history, and economics/finances, hope you like them!
Hi!
My name is Juan Carlos Tame, and I have been given the honor of being one of the main writers for EDIT for the next semester. I am 22 years old and I am from where it used to be known as the Distrito Federal in Mexico, the nation’s capital. I landed in Jönköping as part of an exchange program with the university, focusing on a dual-degree masters program in Law and International Relations.
A couple of things that people should know about me:
Over the last few years, I’ve dedicated most of my time to divulging into the world of Mental Health. In 2019, I founded an NGO named “Compass”, which focuses on the awareness and de-stigmatization of mental health issues via the use of spaces, discussion forums, and much more. This would ultimately lead me in publishing my first book titled “Compass: How to stop losing yourself and find your path.” in 2021, which tries to tackle that same subject matter in a more comprehensive and friendly manner. I have always found these topics interesting to elaborate and discuss, and I firmly believe that the best way to see progress on such a historically taboo topic is with constant dialogue, so expect more articles involving these ideals.
Aside from that, I’m also an aspiring filmmaker; Since I was a child I’ve always had a very special intrigue in movies and series, and this has led me to have the opportunity to work as an intern in some movie studios, in hopes of one day having my own highlight on the big screen. Somehow, I firmly believe that a good movie can change lives. We are much more attached to the media that surround us than we are aware of and in the same way, we do not know the enormous power that they have before us. So if you ever see me on campus, don’t even hesitate to ask me about my latest watches.
Some of my other interests include producing, sports, cooking, stand-up, teaching and much more that I don’t have the time to put into a single article. One of my main philosophies that I follow each and every day is that as people, especially university students, we are much more than just a title, a career or even a profession: As individuals, we often lose ourselves in whatever is impulsing our lives at the moment, and this causes us to forget what ultimately makes us who we are. I decided to come here to challenge myself in what I can and can’t, and perhaps leave an impact on those around me, so I hope you enjoy my writings for this next semester, and I’ll see you soon:
Hi! I am a part of the EDIT team as a writer for this semester, and if you want to get to know me better, well here’s a description of me! My name is Merlinda and I study Media- and comunicationsience with focus on media production. I am 22 years old, living in Jönköping.
Starting from scratch, I’m originally from a small town called Lidköping here in Sweden, not so far away from Jönköping actually. I started art during my teenage years in high school, but here’s the funny thing. When I first chose the focus courses, I chose physics, biology and chemistry, which totally doesn’t make sense to me. There’s such a huge gap between those interests! Sure, those are some really interesting topics, but it didn’t feel like ME, which brings me to mention one of my passions in life: art.
Since I was little, I used to stay home and write all kinds of fictional stories. I outgrew that hobby, but later in life I felt like something was missing. I wanted to express myself in some way, I NEEDED to express myself, and that’s when I started painting. Believe me when I say that I’ve tried all kinds of art forms. Writing poetry, drawing, painting, printing, photography and even filmmaking (except for music). I could lock myself in my apartment with all supplies needed to create and I would be the happiest person alive.
Another passion of mine is music. I don’t really play any instruments or sing, but that is a must to put on my to- list. I can’t even count the concerts I’ve been to, but I would say it’s close to 50. Ever since I was sixteen, I would take the train to Stockholm, with just a backpack and go to a concert. I remember I often tried to discover small bands on Spotify, and if I saw them coming to Sweden, I would be on my merry way to their concerts. Some bands I’ve probably seen five or six times.
So, you may wonder…how did I end up studying in Jönköping? The simple question is that it was spontaneous. One day I just decided that I wanted to leave the city I’ve been living in my whole life, to get a fresh start, so I did. I did leave.
Since I study media production, I felt like it would be a perfect opportunity to write in the school paper. I like to explore many topics and write about those, whether it’s art, lifestyle, mental health or any other topic. I hope you enjoy my writing!
