As we are entering Spring, we are also entering change. We see nature find its color, leave what doesn’t serve it anymore, and enter the most beautiful stage of itself. I don’t know about you — but I’m ready to follow nature’s initiative and change out of my winter-self and into my spring-self.
For starters, I’m going to say goodbye to the ‘that girl era’. Don’t get me wrong — there are some things about the ‘that girl’ aesthetic that I think is great, but is it the vibe for Spring 2024? Lately, I have found myself feeling more stressed than inspired by these different ‘eras’ and ‘aesthetics’ that circulate around social media. Almost as they are putting a pressure on me and shaping me into a persona that I, authentically, am not. I think Spring 2024 is the time to stop trying to live a life based on what we see on social media and instead start living a life based on ourselves. Instead of checking off a checklist of ‘how to become that girl’ — you could create your own checklist of ‘how to become your most authentic self.’ Cause, isn’t that much more fun than having all of us trying to become the same girl? To visualize your aesthetic — I recommend creating a Pinterest board with pictures that represent you. Or writing a list of words that resonates with who you are, what you love, and what makes you happy.
Secondly, I am going to create a morning routine — and I recommend you to do the same. This is not about having a productive morning, but rather about setting the energy for the day. I have tried to follow influencers and youtubers morning routines, but have oftentimes found myself exhausted and unmotivated — since they were not suited for me and what I need from my mornings. Therefore, try to create your own morning routine. What makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning? What do you need to feel the best? What makes you smile? Write the answers to these questions down and create your morning routine. You might find that you don’t have time for all the things you wrote down every morning, but by doing one of the things on your list — you have chosen to start the day for you — prioritizing your feelings and needs. And that’s awesome!
Thirdly, find your colors! With this I mean: implement things into your life that gives it color, such as hobbies. Think back to activities or things that you loved as a child and start implementing them into your life again. For me, it is creative things — such as writing and drawing. Find time for these little things and connect with your inner child. I think it is easy to ‘lose yourself’ as you are on the journey of ‘growing up’ and becoming ‘an adult’ — therefore it is important to every now and then remind yourself of what makes you happy and what brings color into your life. Remember — just because we are adults, doesn’t mean our life has to be gray. But besides hobbies, how do you implement color into your life? A tip is to plan fun things to look forward to. This could be small things such as coffee dates with friends or bigger things such as road trips. But remember, don’t save all the fun things for the weekend — you are alive during the weekdays too!
Lastly, I am going to start living in the moment — and I am going to do this by taking some ‘distance’ from my phone. Our phones are amazing. They are fun, helpful, and I am forever grateful for how easy it is to communicate today — thanks to them. However, they are oftentimes a distraction and tend to take you away from the present. As an example, when I am having lunch with my friends — I don’t want to disappear from that moment into my phone to text another friend or watch someone else have lunch with their friends. I want to be in the moment — fully. So, instead of paying half of my attention on my life and the other half on the lives of the people on my phone — I am going to pay full attention to my life. I am, of course, not going to stop using my phone — but I am going to start putting it in my purse instead of having it on the table next to me and my friends. What are you thinking about this? Could we all get a little better at living here and now?
I hope that some of the things I said either inspired you, or made you reflect and think about some areas of your life. I don’t think change means that you need or should change into ‘this person’ — but rather that you have the opportunity to change into you! And become even more aware of what you need to create the best reality for yourself.
