New Semester, New Adventures: What’s Happening in Jönköping
The semester has just begun, and we all might feel a little bittersweet about it. On the one hand, it would be a dream to spend another week at home, enjoying family walks and dinners; on the other, isn’t it exciting to see what kind of memorable experience the next five months at JU will bring to your life? One important aspect is that to get those happy memories, you must get out of your place and see what’s fun out there in Jönköping. Not sure where to search for activities? No worries! This is your source of some events you might want to visit in the near future.
Art exhibitions
Do you prefer calm and mind-provoking activities? In this case, what could be better than enjoying some art and wondering about what an artist wanted to translate through their works? Liselott Wassborg, who works in an abstract painting style that portrays her impressions of nature and surroundings, is having an exhibition at Österängens Konsthall on the 25th, 26th, and 30th of January. Come by to get inspiration and interestingly spend a few hours!
Sport events
Experiencing professional ice hockey in person is a definite must for everyone who enjoys speed, adrenaline, and tackling their nerves. What pleasant news is that Jönköping is known for being the home to the HV71 – SHL ice hockey team and their SDHL-playing ladies’ team. So, grab a friend, wear a hat, and go watch people skating at 20 to 30 km/h speed throughout 3 periods of 20 minutes. The closest home games are happening on the 28th and 31st of January, and the 1st of February. Maybe you love hockey, just don’t know about it yet?
University trips
There is a good tradition in JU that appeals to many students – traveling with a group of other students to different places. The most popular one, among both exchange and program students, is the Lapland trip. Spending a few days together with friends in such a beautiful and full-of-different-activities place is a real find! Look out for possible announcements on the university’s accounts about the trip, or better, reach out to friends, acquaintances, and fellow students about it, so you will definitely find someone who knows the details.

As always, Jönköping has something fascinating to offer everyone, whether they are sports fans, art lovers, or adventurers ready to explore. It’s not just about having fun when you step outside of your comfort zone and participate in these activities; it’s also about forming new friendships, building memories, and taking advantage of all that university life has to offer. Take the risk, investigate the community, and make this semester one to remember!
