StartUp Jönköping: Your First Step Into Entrepreneurship
Pitch your idea. Find your people. Take the first step.
Have a business idea that’s been sitting in the back of your head? Startup Jönköping wants to help you bring it to life.
The student-run association at Jönköping University is on a mission to make entrepreneurship accessible to everyone — not just JIBS students. “There’s so much potential across JU,” says the association’s president. “But many students, especially from JTH and the health school, don’t know where to begin. That’s where we come in.”
After a few quiet years, Startup was relaunched in 2023 and is now growing fast. With a small but dedicated team, they organize workshops, collaborate with Science Park, and support students with ideas — no matter what stage they’re at. I had the opportunity to sit down with the acting president of StartUp, Sruthi Kumar to talk about their upcoming event.
Day One – May 6th
Startup’s biggest event of the semester is Day One, a high-energy pitch competition open to all students. Participants have the chance to pitch solo or in groups of up to four people so whether you’re a solo founder or part of a team, it’s your chance to pitch your business idea to a panel of judges for feedback, validation — and the opportunity to win a cash prize of up to 10000 SEK.
“There’s no strict format,” explains the president. “We just want students who are serious about their idea and ready to take that first step.”
No experience? No problem.
Participants will get access to tools, tips, and even help from Startup’s board members to prepare their pitch. And you don’t have to be part of the association to get involved.
“Students from all backgrounds reach out to us for guidance,” the president says. “If you’re even slightly curious about entrepreneurship, we’re here for you. We’ll help you connect with the right people — or just get started.”
How to join:
Applications are now open via @startup.jkpg on Instagram. Whether you want to pitch or simply attend, you’ll be able to sign up directly through their link. Application period for pitchers closes on April 29th so head over and sign up if you’re interested.
“This isn’t just about winning,” the president adds. “It’s about learning how to share your vision. And that’s something every entrepreneur needs to know how to do.”
