If you’re reading this… You’ve made it to the final stretch. With less than a month left of the semester we’re bringing in exam season by welcoming back the sun from its long vacation abroad. What better way to do that while simultaneously taking the edge off a stressful study period than with a good old fashioned night out? Okay picture this, it’s a Thursday night, the weather forecast calls for sunny skies and over 10 degrees all day long, the sun is setting at 9pm, the music is loud and the vibes are high. Chills, literal chills. Lucky for you I know exactly where this daydream can become a reality, at Firebowl of course!
If you’re like me then you’ve inevitably heard about or even been lucky enough to experience the hype that is Firebowl. I was extra lucky to be able to sit down with the faces behind the iconic event, Jovan and Weronika, and get the inside scoop and here’s what I learned.
Firebowl began in September 2022 with three friends, Marta, Kate and Jad. So we’ve all been there, the drag of looking for a place to enjoy a night out, the difference between us and these three masterminds however was that after failed attempts and killed vibes on multiple nights out Marta, Kate and Jad decided to create their own space to have a good time. The concept behind Firebowl stems from two things, a dream of inclusivity for the international students in Jönköping and a mutual love of Mr. Worldwide, also a clever nod to the target audience of the event. These three wanted a place where everyone in the room felt comfortable enough to scream the lyrics and dance to their favourite pop-songs. As you can probably guess, it was a huge success and even though Marta, Kate and Jad graduated last year their legacy was carried on by Jovan and Weronika.
Both Weronika and Jovan were avid firebowl goers and were more than happy to take the torch passed onto them by Marta, Kate and Jad. Besides being an awesome party, Firebowl is also a business run now by Weronika and Jovan and when asked about the business aspect of it they both agreed that there is no one they would rather be in it with. Jovan and Weronika both gushed about being able to work with a friend, talking about how much easier a task is when you and the person you’re working with are able to identify individual strengths and weaknesses, in turn using them to create the best possible outcomes. They did however open up about reservations they had going into it, the fear of mixing business and friendship, Jovan even saying that “business doesn’t work like friendships” but even after almost a year of doing this together they have managed to produce great parties while still being friends.
Weronika is a third year, working student and Jovan is a second year working student. They both study New Media Design and partake in extracurriculars outside of Firebowl so when asked how they balance it all, I was met with an amused, collective “We don’t”. Weronika went on to explain that in their case it isn’t necessarily about balance, they find joy in putting together Firebowl as it’s there they have complete creative freedom, Jovan agreeing that “it’s a good vent”. Weronika and Jovan’s goal for Firebowl is constant improvement while staying authentic to the idea created by Marta, Kate and Jad. They strive to keep the core of Firebowl, keeping it an affordable place for people to have fun, make friends and just be themselves, leaving with the feeling that they’ve just had an awesome night out.
The next Firebowl is this week, Thursday, May 16th and the theme is Hawaii, if you have plans, cancel them and go down to Fabriken. The doors are open 22.00-00.00 and the party goes to 02.00, and the tickets are 80kr at the door. Maybe you’ll even get to meet the faces behind the party who shared their best tips going into it:
Dress up! Because everyone else will.
Wrangle together your tribe and bring only the best of vibes.
And finally, don’t come if you aren’t ready to DANCE!
See you Thursday 😉
