Thrifting in Jönköping: The Best For Less!
Whether you’re an avid ethical fashion enthusiast or just appreciate clothes at affordable prices, thrifting in a must — and there’s no country that does it better than Sweden! Here are some thrift stores you must visit during your time in Jönköping.
1. Erikshjälpen Second Hand – 7/10
Erikshjälpen is a non-profit thrift store chain operating in more than 16 countries, aiming to fight for children’s rights. As soon as you enter their location in Jönköping, you will realize it is the epitome of thrift stores; you can find clothes, furniture, carpets, and a wide array of home essentials and décor that you’ll be surprised by! The prices don’t disappoint either: with T-shirts at 40kr and jeans at 90kr, it might just be the cheapest store in the city.
Their collection of clothes gets renewed every Tuesday with interesting pieces that the organization receives as donations. Unfortunately, their collection of clothes is limited in comparison to the amount of furniture and miscellaneous items that they offer for sale. Still, it is worth paying a visit and seeing whether it suits your own personal taste.
Bonus: The location in Jönköping includes a very cute fika place to wind down after your shopping – don’t miss out on that!
2. Myrorna – 9/10
Myrorna is the oldest thrift store chain in Sweden, which you can find in 16 different cities throughout the country. In my opinion, it is also the most value-for-money store in the city, maintaining second-hand prices for timeless styles and quality. I’ve bought countless clothing pieces from Myrorna and I absolutely adore them, although their furniture and home décor has never particularly intrigued me.
Bonus: Myrorna offers a 10% discount for students by showing your Mecenat card at checkout!
3. PMU Second Hand – 8/10
PMU is one of the most well-organized and carefully curated thrift stores I’ve been to. It offers an immersive experience and a wide range of any type of clothing you might be looking for. Their collections are color-coordinated, so if you’re looking to add more color to your wardrobe, pay this store a visit and steer clear of the black-and-white sections!
Bonus: It is right in the heart of the city, so you can’t miss it!
4. Busfrö – 7/10
Arguably the most well-known second-hand store in Jönköping, Busfrö offers one of the largest clothes collections in the city at affordable prices. Regardless of your taste and preferences, here you can certainly find a clothing piece or accessory of your liking. What has been particularly striking for me is their selection of shoes which are kept in pristine condition, most times even sold unworn.
It takes a bit of time to go through everything and find something you like, but the result might just be well-worth the search.
Bonus: It is situated right next to PMU, so you can visit both in one day and find which suits you best.
If you’re interested in visiting one of more of these thrift stores, the EDIT team has compiled a Google Maps list of all thrift stores in the city (including some stores which didn’t make it to the list), which you can find here. Happy shopping!
