Welcome students to Jönköping University, aka JU. A new semester equals a new start, with that, new student and to you I say Welcome, as for the rest congratulations you are now one year closer to graduation. An amazing year is waiting full of events and weekends to create new memories with your friends. However, there is no need to worry seeing as this will be my way of breaking down the year so you don’t have to worry.
We start off the first week of school with the infamous kick off. Arguably one of the most exciting events of the year not to mention the biggest. Now this is a ten day event, and contains a lot of activities as well as partying during the evenings, furthermore during the Saturday the Kick-off Festival takes place where artists will perform and there will also be prizes that you can win. But you need to capture the moment so my advice is to find the photo booth and take the pictures with your friends. My advice which I also consider to be the most important one is to wear comfortable shoes with good heel support. Now moving on to what else JU has to offer.
Through the year there will be many events to keep a look out for hosted by the different associations. The most popular of these would be the different sittings hosted by the the different creations at each faculty, Blue Crew and Pedsex are responsible for HLK, Sexcreation is responsible for JIBS while Cellskapet handles the health school and JTH is taken care of by HI Life. There are however other associations like Unite and IAC that organize activities and events that are a great way to socialize and meet new people. An excellent example would be the food safari event. Every wednesday Aka is open, the student club. Here you find delicious fries and students from all the different schools that you can socialize with.
During the semester you are going to have many lectures as well as exam week, also known as the week you stay at the university after hours and study. Which means food is important to keep up the energy. The different school facilities usually have their restaurants where you can get lunch or a fast snack, other places with cafes are the library and the student house. Don’t forget to take a break in between studying and prioritize some movement, taking a walk around either munksjön or rocksjön or maybe going to the gym is probably a good idea, at campus arena you can find Nordic Wellness as well as almost everywhere in the city.
Now we leave campus and move on to the city, the city life in Jönköping is not boring if you know where to find the action. If you are in the mood for some bar hangouts with drinks, games and food then Shooters is a good place to start. Every monday you also get a student discount where you can play games for free. If you however want to have a chill day or evening, La Vue has an amazing wine selection and a view that is breathtaking during the sunset.
