A Week as a Student at JU
Are you a student? Then you can relate to the feeling of needing a fun break from long lectures and intense study sessions. However, going home to an empty apartment can sometimes feel… well… boring! Luckily for all students at JU, there are lots of fun events that occur every week on campus. Let’s check them out!
Tuesday – Language Café
Location: Café Rio, Student Union Building
Time: 16:00 – 18:00
Instagram: @jsulanguagecafe
Are you looking to learn a new language or improve some already learned language skills, then Language Café is the perfect place for you!
The Project Managers of Language Café, Elma and Paolo, describe Language Café as an informal environment where you are able to learn a language while having fun and making new friends. Elma explains that every week there’s a theme, such as Scandinavia, Mental Health, or Halloween. The students will then learn words or phrases connected to the theme, and at the end of the event there will be the chance to win prizes through Kahoot!
As you enter Language Café you will see multiple tables with signs stating different languages, such as “French” and “Greek.” You will then choose which language you are interested in learning or improving. However, before stressing about which language to choose, remember that you can always choose to learn another language next week!
Elma and Paolo explain that the best thing as Project Managers of Language Café is seeing students developing their language skills, and they hope to see many more students attend Language Café in the future!
Hey, why not…
… make this a weekly tradition with friends? How cozy!
… start your New Year’s resolutions early? You got this!
… learn some basic phrases for your upcoming vacation? How cool!
Wednesday – Jubel Student Pub
Location: JIBS (Jönköping International Business School)
Time: 16:00 – 20:00
Instagram: @jubelstudentpub
You have finally reached Wednesday and are halfway through another week of studies. This is (of course) something that you want to celebrate with some music and friends, but… where? Lucky for you, EDIT knows just the place… and that is Jubel Student Pub!
Stella has worked at Jubel for a year and describes the pub as a fun place to hang out with friends and meet new people. She adds that Jubel creates the perfect balance between school and fun!
Besides welcoming all students to a festive atmosphere filled with music, food, and drinks, Jubel also hosts “sittningar” which are for all students at JU. Stella told EDIT that the next sittning will take place at the end of November, but she recommends keeping an eye on their Instagram for more information!
Stella explains that her favorite thing about working at Jubel is the feeling of community along with meeting new people and making connections. She encourages all students to come by and check Jubel out!
Hey, why not…
… make Jubel the start of your AKA night?
… catch up with some friends? How fun!
… celebrate your achievements with music and food? You deserve it!
… mingle and meet some new people? YES!
Thursday – Cardboard
Location: Café Rio, Student Union Building
Time: 17:00 – 22:00
Instagram: @cardboard.ju
Psss, have you heard about the place that appears every other Thursday on campus… the place where some students search for The Lost Diamond while others scream UNO! No? Well, then you are in for a treat!
EDIT are of course talking about Cardboard – the place where students can play board games and card games for FIVE hours straight! Here you will find all different types of games, from easy leveled to more advanced leveled.
Filip, the Craft Master for Cardboard, explains that Cardboard hosts two different events:
1. Open Game Night – all students are welcomed to Cardboard!
2. Members Night – only members! (members meet in a smaller setting to play a more advanced board game).
Filip adds that anyone can become a member of Cardboard – all you have to do is show up to an Open Game Night and pay the one time 100 SEK membership fee. (You can text Cardboard on Instagram for more membership details!)
Open Game Night takes place every other Thursday and Filip describes Cardboard as an awesome opportunity to leave the apartment, meet some new people, and have a laugh while playing some fun games!
Lastly, Filip wants to remind all students that there’s something for everyone at Cardboard – and not just advanced board games that take hours to complete, but also more simple games that can be played in a short amount of time!
Hey, why not…
… bring some friends and play Cards Against Humanity? LOL!
… challenge yourself and try a new board game? (And meet some new people!)
… find your most competitive friend and play Sequence? How fun!
Friday – Culture Day
Location: HLK (School of Education and Communication)
Time: 12:00-13:00
Instagram: @iacjkpg
As we say in Sweden: “the one who waits for something good, never waits too long” – and in this case EDIT is of course talking about Friday and Culture Day!
For an hour every Friday the HLK lobby turns into a space where students are able to share their country’s culture with other students.
Thet Tun (Cameronn) recommends all students to come by Culture Day since it is an awesome opportunity to learn first hand information about another culture, which is both fascinating and educational!
Every week there are new students presenting, which makes each Friday extremely unique! However, there are a couple of things that students always can expect from Culture Day, such as learning about other countries, meeting new people, trying food typical for the country presented, and of course having a fun time!
Cameronn explains that the best part of arranging Culture Day is being able to share happiness and seeing how everyone’s having a good time!
Hey, why not…
… start your weekend with expanding your knowledge? YES!
… bring some friends and learn together? (And make some more friends!)
… try some food and drinks from another country? How yummy!
… share about your country and its culture? DOUBLE YES! 🙂
