Bonding and meeting people can sometimes be hard, especially bonding. Finding common ground and starting a conversation by finding similar interests. It can vary from sports to music. However, a universal way to connect with people is food. Waffle night is the perfect event to meet new people and have a nice time while enjoying waffles.
Waffle night was recently hosted by HINT, which is JTH’s international committee. EDIT attended the event and interviewed Christian, a member of HINT who helped organize this event.
Sandra: What is Waffle night?
Christian: Waffle night is pretty easy, we sell waffles. Today we joined with Cardboard, so we have board games as well. We sell waffles, play games and just connect. Just a night to hang out I would say.
Sandra: What is waffle night about?
Christian: Waffle night is about playing games, bringing all the schools together and bringing all the international students together, because especially in the beginning everyone is in the same kick off group and this becomes basically like a class meet up, people meet each other again.
Sandra: What’s on the menu except for waffles, do you serve alternatives if someone is maybe lactose and/or gluten intolerant?
Christian: We have gluten free waffles which are also vegan. We have lactose free cream for everyone. We also have some toppings like jam or Nutella.
Sandra: Who can attend waffle night?
Christian: Everyone who is paying the membership fee, students who are a part of JTH and all the other schools as well.
Sandra: Why do you think a student should attend this event?
Christian: Who doesn’t like cheap waffles and good company!
Sandra: What is your favorite part of waffle night?
Christian: I organized waffle night. the best part is we help each other at HINT and it’s so nice to get the group’s effort together. We also have a lot of people here tonight and it’s just so nice to see everyone happy. All the team effort was worth it.
Waffle night is a fun event for all to attend for students from all schools. The menu even offers different alternatives if you have an allergy or if you have a vegan diet. While covering the event, EDIT had a fun time playing games and enjoying the waffles. People were connecting and socializing and it was by observation a full house at RIO, leading to the next question. Will there be any more waffle nights?
Christian: Next semester for sure. We will have a pub crawl upcoming. That is our next event that people can check out our Instagram.
If you want to attend any future waffle nights or HINT events keep a look out on their Instagram (@hint.jth).
