Campus Under Construction – Here’s What’s Changing
As many students have noticed, the campus area of JU is currently being renovated. EDIT reached out to Högskolefastigheter AB, the property owner of the university facilities, to hear about the changes that are being made.
Changes Between the Library and JTH
Magnus Carlsson, CEO of Högskolefastigheter AB, explains that the goal with the renovation process is to make our campus greener and more attractive.
“Trees and bushes will be planted between JTH and the library to create more structure. More bicycle spaces will also be created,” Magnus says.
This will be finished in Spring 2026, depending on the planting season.
Changes Between the Library and House K
The next phase of the renovation process is the area between the Library and House K, which begins when the renovation between the Library and JTH is finished.
“The parking lot will be removed, and more greenery will be planted. We are going to create more outdoor areas for students to hangout as well,” Magnus says.
This is planned to be finished in late Fall 2026.
About Disruptions in School
Magnus mentions that disruptions, like noise, are inevitable in projects like this.
“This is the hard part of the project. There are less people in the area during Christmas and during summer, so we try to do most of the work during those times.”
He explains that communication plays a big role in running the projects smoothly while students still attend school.
“We have weekly meetings with Högskoleservice. Together we discuss the renovation process and plan how to move forward.”
Besides the campus renovation, they are also switching the lamps in several of the buildings in the university. This will cause some noise too, such as drilling noises.
